Most people in product design would be familiar with the Double Diamond. I've observed that in application, it's often like the Double Amoeba.
With a strong understanding of the context behind different projects, I find that it makes it easier to be clearer how, and when, a designer should converge and diverge within each stage, and still be able to deliver a polished design.
